FFFF

On Fridays, I like to post some fun and frugal family adventure ideas.

Bonus points for supporting local music and culture!

Barn Dance at the Center on Saturday, October 23 from 7:30 to 10 pm.

Everyone is welcome to the Barn Dance! Even if you do not wish to dance, the old time country music, provided by the best local bands in the area, is worth the price of admission. No experience is necessary; all dances are taught and called by an expert caller. There’s no fancyfootwork involved; simply walk through a series of movements that you’ll soon master with help from the caller and veteran dancers. Fun for all ages and abilities, the Barn Dance is open to all: singles, couples, and the entire family. Come, check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Safe Halloween for Kids at Ushers Ferry on Sunday, October 24 from 1 to 4 pm.

This beloved family event is coming home again to Ushers Ferry! Bring out the kids for an old-fashioned Halloween filled with trick-or-treating, games and costume contests. Those with an artistic flair will want to bring their carved or decorated pumpkins for the Jack o' Lantern judging contest.

Monthly
Irish Session at the Center. 24 South Linn Street in Iowa City on Sunday, October 24 from 2 to 4 pm.

The fourth Sunday of every month, my Cavan Fiddle Studio fiddlers and many of our local musician friends join together for an informal Irish session. We are sometimes lucky enough to be joined by the Ghrá na Gaeilge Irish dancers. A session isn't a performance exactly, just a jam session of sorts, but onlookers (otherwise known as future dancers and musicians) are most certainly welcome. The Dutchers will not be in attendance this coming Sunday but we will look forward to seeing you at the next session!

Have a great weekend!
